OAK GROVE TECHNOLOGIES PRESENTS PAPER AT 7TH ANNUAL CAREER CLUSTERS INSTITUTE
Thursday, June 18th, 2009
Fort Worth, TX – Denise Lawson, Senior VP of Strategy, and Kriza Jennings, Senior Analyst, recently presented a paper at the 7th Annual Career Clusters Institute on June 16 in Fort Worth, TX. The Institute conference brings together education leaders and practitioners from around the country and is designed to showcase the importance of career clusters for students. The career clusters model is an integral part of a number of high schools nationwide. Clusters help students see the relationship between the courses they take and career fields they are interested in. The theme for this year’s Career Clusters Institute is “The Building Blocks for Change.”
Ms. Lawson and Ms. Jennings presented their paper, Collaboration Between Education and the Military: Using Career Clusters as a Model to Coordinate Career Exploration Efforts, in conjunction with Gisela Harkin of the Department of Education (DoE). The presentation highlighted how the DoE and Department of Defense (DoD) are working together to include military careers in the career clusters framework. One important step in that direction has been to incorporate career clusters into the ASVAB Career Exploration Program. Oak Grove is responsible for developing program materials, websites, and occupational analyses for the ASVAB Program.
Ms. Jennings thought that the conference was very “informative” and she was pleased to see educators from across the country participate.
