OAK GROVE TECHNOLOGIES MAKES DONATION TO FLAT BRANCH VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT

Thursday, October 20th, 2016

In the wake of the destruction and devastation caused by Hurricane Matthew, Oak Grove Technologies presented a check on Wednesday, October 19, 2016 for one thousand five hundred dollars to Fire Department Training Officer, Lt. Christopher Anderson, in support of the Flat Branch Volunteer Fire Department Christmas Fund for 2016. During the informal ceremony at the Flat Branch Volunteer Fire Department located at 2098 Elliott Bridge Road in Bunnlevel, North Carolina, Oak Grove Technologies representative, Chuck Anderson, thanked the firefighters for their outstanding efforts in rescuing members of their community and asked that these funds be added to the others donated by the local community to purchase equipment and safety gear for their 40 volunteers and 8 full time staff. This additional safety equipment will be used to augment what the department has already issued these brave individuals who responded to over 400 calls for help in 2015 in our community. The Flat Branch Volunteer Fire Department does not pay their volunteers any monetary sum for responding to calls for help or even for the gas they use in their personal vehicles to answer these emergencies.

Because of this dedication demonstrated by the members of the Flat Branch Volunteer Fire Department, the department training officer put together a fund raising campaign to help increase the purchase of key safety equipment for these unpaid volunteers which would have come out of their own pockets to procure. With a very limited tax base, the Flat Branch Volunteer Fire Department provides each firefighter with only a basic set of structural firefighter gear that includes; a helmet, one Nomex fire hood, fire suppression coat, suspenders, pants, and boots. Due to budget constraints, spare or specialty gear is very limited or nonexistent for department personnel. Many volunteers spend their own funds to purchase such safety items as; helmet flashlights, extrication gloves, safety glasses or goggles, and spare Nomex hoods, just to name a few…

Oak Grove Technologies offered a check in the amount of $1,500.00 to help offset that cost to the volunteers and purchase the appropriate amount of extraction gloves and other safety equipment so that they can continue to count on the Flat Branch volunteer firefighters to respond to each and every 9-1-1 dispatch call and mutual aid requests from surrounding districts with pride and dedication.

Oak Grove Technologies is happy to be one of the major contributors for this event and wanted to show that we appreciate the service and sacrifices put forth by these brave heroes every day of the year. Pictured above is OGT representative, Chuck Anderson, presenting the check to Training Officer, Lt. Christopher Anderson, and receiving a thank you letter addressed to OGT owner, Mark Gross, expressing the gratitude of the entire Flat Branch Volunteer Fire Department!
