LEARNING DIPLOMACY IN SIMULATED ENVIRONMENTS
Monday, March 19th, 2012
Hoffman, NC – Oak Grove completed its first Interagency Practical Exercise (IAPX).
By simulating a U.S. Embassy environment, Oak Grove provided students from Company B, 5th Battalion, 1st Special Warfare Training Group, Fort Bragg, NC the opportunity to apply what they’ve learned in the classroom in a simulated environment.
The training took place in Hoffman Elementary School adjacent to Camp Mackall, NC. The students resided in the simulated embassy and utilized Camp Mackall for life support such as food and showers throughout the week. Oak Grove’s support of the IPAX includes scenario development, IT support, and providing role players with relevant backgrounds as Defense Attaché’s, Public Diplomacy, Legal Attaché’s and other Embassy roles. In order to meet the requirements of the Military Information Support Operations Qualification Course (MISOQC), 68 students formed eight Military Information Support Teams (MISTs) for the duration of the five day exercise in order to prepare for deployment.
“The Oak Grove team provided exceptional role-player accountability and control, preparation of the facility including Internet connectivity, computers and other automation. They coped with the dynamics of the scenario as well as injected last minute current events into the scenario, which brought realism to the contemporary operational environment we wanted to portray to the students,” said the course manager.
Oak Grove will assist with conducting three to four IAPX’s each year for the MISOQC students. Oak Grove currently provides similar support to Civil Affairs students and cadre.
