SUPPORTING PROMISING PRACTICES

Tuesday, May 08th, 2012

Fairfax, VA – Oak Grove is proud to sponsor the Promising Practices for Healing Psychological Trauma of Service Members, Veterans, Family, and Community on Friday May 11, 2012. This workshop, now in its third year, is the brainchild of Dr. Cathleen Lewandowski of George Mason University’s College of Health and Human Services.

The goal of this one-day workshop is to strengthen the capacity of the professional workforce and the community to effectively respond to the concerns and needs of Servicemembers, Veterans, and their families in order to heal psychological trauma. The College of Health and Human Services is committed to serving Veterans who are coping with a service-related head injury, PTSD, and/or depression.

Oak Grove shares in this commitment to help support our nation’s Veterans as they transition to civilian life. Through our work with the Department of Veteran Affairs, we provide training that promotes education about PTSD and traumatic brain injury across VA and throughout the community. Our interactive eLearning courseware educates VA clinicians on best practices for patient-centered care and suicide risk prevention. We are also currently working closely with VA psychologists and health practitioners to develop a self-paced, problem-solving course for Veterans, Servicemembers and their families.
