AUSA WINTER SYMPOSIUM
Wednesday, February 20th, 2013
Ft. Lauderdale, FL – Oak Grove Technologies is attending the AUSA Winter Symposium.
Senior Vice President of Defense and Global Security, BG(R) Les Fuller is representing Oak Grove Technologies at the conference in order to discuss the company’s extensive work in the Special Operations Forces (SOF) community.
“Oak Grove Technologies’ training for USASOC focuses on Special Forces, Civil Affairs, and Military Information Support Operations Soldiers’ understanding the importance of human dimension (the local population and culture in the a given area). As our Army moves from an Army of Execution to an Army of Preparation more and more people are recognizing the need to prepare soldiers for the complex social and cultural environment they are going to operate in,” said Fuller.
The number of defense industry officials traveling to FL to attend the annual conference decreased in the wake of Deputy Defense Secretary Ashton Carter’s memo ordering each service to reduce travel and conference expenses ahead of potential sequestration cuts. As a result, Oak Grove also reduced its presence at the conference.
According to David Liddle, AUSA spokesman, it’s likely that AUSA will attempt to make the Winter Symposium more accessible next year by holding the event in Raleigh, NC; less than a 90-minute drive from Fort Bragg, home of the SOF, and a four hour drive from Washington D.C. Oak Grove is headquartered in Raleigh, NC a potential site for next year’s event.
Sequestration cuts would force the Army to subtract $18 billion from its budget by October 2013 unless Congress and the White House can forge a deficit reduction plan by March 1. “The Army must balance the budget conflicts between ongoing military operations and looking at near term and long term readiness,” said Fuller.
