Alexandria, VA - The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs awarded Oak Grove Technologies a place on the 2013/14 eLearning Storyboards and Web Design IDIQ contract.
This contract will allow Oak Grove to continue to design and develop Web-based courses for VA clinicians, facilities and medical center staff, as well as Veteran patients and their beneficiaries, in a variety of different areas: registration and intake, diversity, anger management, genome, weight management, fluoroscopic x-ray safety, suicide prevention, third-party prescription billing, to mention a few.
Oak Grove’s preferred approach is collaborative, with instructional designers and developers working hand-in-hand with VA’s subject matter experts. When possible, Oak Grove facilitates face-to-face discussions that allow subject matter experts to focus on the goals and outcomes and identify the materials and instructional techniques required to support them.
VA projects must be designed to conform to guidelines provided by Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act. “Oak Grove’s approach is to design for everyone, regardless of ability or disability.” So says Sue Struthers, Director of eLearning and a proponent of universal design. “One of the biggest challenges is with video and descriptive narration. When filming a clinician with a patient, for example, the goal is to have them explain exactly what they want the patient to do rather than direct them to ‘lift your arm like this.’ Building the direction into the script ahead of time minimizes the necessity for narrative description. So the clinician would say, ‘I’d like you to raise your left arm in front of you, parallel to the floor.’”
Oak Grove is proud to continue its service to our Nation’s Veterans and their families by contributing to the quality of care and services that VA provides.
