Raleigh, NC - Oak Grove Technologies recently sponsored the 4th Annual Lenovo Magnificent Mile Race and Fun Runs that were held on Sunday, September 13th in downtown Raleigh, North Carolina.
The race is held annually as a fundraiser for the Spastic Paraplegia Foundation (SPA), a non-profit organization founded six years ago. The SPA’s primary mission is to find a cure for motor neuron disease.
The Lenovo Magnificent Mile was inspired by Sarah Roberts-Witt and Scott and Amy Corsmeier. Sarah Roberts-Witt is living with PLS(Primary Lateral Sclerosis). PLS is a motor neuron disease related to ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis). Before her illness began in 2004, Sarah was passionate about running, and participated in many marathons. Scott and Amy,siblings, were diagnosed with HSP(Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia), also a motor neuron disease, when they were children.
“…I started looking at photos from Sunday and I got really choked up," said Ms. Roberts-Witt, reflecting on the race. "Not because of the number of people but because of the broad smiles and expressions of pure joy on the faces of those who attended. That's what The Magnificent Mile is all about for me. Yes, it brings much-needed attention to two yucky disorders -- PLS and HSP -- but it also provides an opportunity to celebrate friendship, movement, the wonder of being alive."
Lynne Ritter, an Oak Grove employee, was able to attend and represent Oak Grove at the event. "It was such a wonderful day, beautiful weather, and a great turnout. My family and I thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to meet Sarah and get involved with this fundraiser. The company as a whole is enthusiastic about getting more involved in various local events."
